The great “Cy” Young makes a pitch for your attention with this ancient greeting card. This heavy stock bi-fold card presents in (GD-VG) condition with deference to album paper and adhesive residue on the back cover and moderate staining on the perimeter of the front. The front cover is affixed with an oval photo of Young with bat in hand, admiring the many trophies he acquired during his record setting career.
Young has authored a full page of content on the interior of the card. Addressed to “Mr. Smith”, this correspondence is hand-dated 1/29/31. Located in customary position at the conclusion of the written note, Young’s stylish signature shows desirable (“7-8”) strength and is accompanied by his usual “Peoli, O.” inscription. Opposite of the written content are two clippings, including one that corresponds to the photo on the front. Full photo LOA from JSA. This item has a reserve, estimated value is $2,000 to $3,000.
The letter’s content reads in full as: “Jan 29th, 1931, Dear Mr. Smith, I am too glad to dot a line or two on this page, I have quite a lot of this to do, So I will let you be the judge of the pitchers of long ago and present day, Yours Sincerely, Cy Young, Peoli, O.”.
