Give a big wahoo for this vintage baseball figural. Now coming to bat is a 1947 Mazzolini Artcraft Co. Chief Wahoo lamp with shade in working order. This seldom seen chalkware piece was crafted in a low production run as an exclusive for the Cleveland Indians during the year team owner Bill Veeck first commissioned the Chief Wahoo logo/mascot.
Standing 7” tall on a 3/4" base, our cheerful fellow is topped off by a brass fitting that extends another 3” above the head. The paint is generally vivid and glossy and this ancient illuminator retains abundant charm, however a 1/2” section is absent from the heel of the right hand and several small chips occur on the nose, feather and base. There is also a bit of paint wear on the left sleeve and bat.
The rear of the base is impressed with a copyright symbol and the initials “M.A. CO.”. An AC wall plug/cord is securely attached and has been tested to work normally. The 6x8 lampshade is a bit crushed in two spots, which are fortunately located on the same side, so the shade can be positioned without this condition being noticeable.
